1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) is active ingredient which is similar to ethylene, a naturally occurring hormone that causes fruit to ripen. PlanFresh interacts with ethylene-sensitive sites in the fruit to control its response to internal and external ethylene sources. This delays the ripening process, so that softening and over-ripening occur much more slowly.
1-MCP technology improves peak freshness in the supply chain of apples, pears kakis, kiwis and other fruits. Packers, growers and retails can use it to better manage ripening control, to preserve the desired taste and texture.
